 Fun Times at Discovery!

Last week we had an official opening of the new scooter rack. Lots of people in our school community worked really hard to make this happen. We are very appreciative.

We are very lucky to have such a fabulous School Community Group of hardworking parents to make a difference to our school. The Junior Playground is about to be transformed! Work started this weekend and Dianne was first to get her hands mucky!

Just a few things….
In the Kowhai Syndicate we are currently covering a ‘Firewise’ topic.
After completing the programme the children will understand that fire can be dangerous and will have learned behaviours that will prevent fires. We also cover how to get out of a burning building quickly and safely.
To date we have covered what a safe fire looks like and safety with matches lighters and candles. We refer to these items as ‘tools’ not toys. A tool is required to have an adult present.
Over the next couple of weeks we will look at smoke alarms, how to get out of a burning room safely, and what firefighters to do rescue people and put out fires. We will complete the topic with a visit from some firefighters. Obviously this topic is quite sensitive for some children and it is delivered according to their level. It may become a topic of conversation at home so please support your child accordingly.

We are actually timetabled to swim this term! As you can imagine it is very weather dependant.
Next week we plan to swim Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
The last week of school it will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Other dates to record on your calendar…
·         Tuesday 9th December ‘Thank You For Your Help Morning Tea’ 10.15am in School Library
·         Tuesday 16th December, Kowhai Big Day Out
·         Friday 19th December, last day of school 2014 (School finishes 12 noon)

Thank you for your ongoing support.
Have a happy and safe week!

Great White Butterfly Hunt
This week we went on our first Great White Butterfly hunt. We 'crept' around the playground searching for this nasty butterfly. We thought we might of had some success after Ollie spotted a white butterfly. Neroli dived into action to successfully capture it!
Upon our inspection we concluded that it was actually a female 'Small White Butterfly'. This butterfly is not quite so dangerous to our environment but still best out of our vegetable gardens.
