Week 8, Term 2

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about and celebrating Matariki.
In Renwick 3 we have been singing waiata, dramatizing some legends, creating art work and dancing. On Friday we celebrated as a whole school at the front field. Each syndicate performed an item. We did the Matariki Macarena!

Sadly due to the wet weather our trip to the Museum for Maori Myths and Legends has been postponed until next term.

Next week...

Our sound will be short 'a'.
Our tricky words will be like/have.
During maths we will be looking at weight.
On Wednesday we are having a shared kai to celebrate the end of our Healthy Eating learning. Please send your child to school with a plate of healthy food to share for lunch.
This term seems to have raced by! Thank you for your support. The children have made huge progress over the term and as always I am so very proud of them. Last Friday was a prime example during our Matariki celebrations. On more than one occasion I noted Dr. Potaka commenting how Kowhai children were leading the way for behaviour and respect for others. I must also applaud the children on the courage they demonstrated to perform in front of the entire school. I never cease to be amazed of the strengths of our children.

Have a happy and safe week!

Week 6, Term 2

We start each day reminding ourselves of the alphabet names and sounds. The star of the day and back leader help us out by pointing to the letters as we sing them.

This week at fundamental skills we were working on our football skills with Jane. We took Humphrey down with us to take some photos. He was really impressed with the way that we all participated, listened and took turns.

This week during Discovery Time we were using our creative thinking to make some cool things out of plastic bottles. We tried lots of different things from speed boats and biscuits to pirate ships and spaceships.

On Friday it was our annual cross country. It was very exciting and a very busy time on the front field. We waited in line patiently until it was our time to race. The girls went first and then the boys.

Next week....
Our sounds will be v/oo.
Our tricky words will be after/are.
During maths we will carry on with counting backwards and subtraction.
Have a happy and safe week!

Week 4, Term 2

We had our last session with Constable John this week. We were talking about the difference between a good surprise and a bad secrete. We acted out some scenes. We know it is not good to keep a secret that may cause harm or injury to someone.

On Wednesday we went to The Suter for a Movement and Drama Workshop. We had so much fun with Esther creating a sequence of dance moves in relation to a piece of art work.
A big thank you to all the parents that came with us.

This week during Discovery Time Neroli put out a bag of corks. We found lots of interesting things we could do and make...from massaging our puku to capturing someone!
We were also busy making masks and dragons.
Our focus was playing fairly. We shared the resources and took turns with the dress ups.

Next week...
Our sound will be ee.
Our tricky words will be going/he.
During maths we will continue on simple addition.
We are well under way with our cross country training. The big event will be on Friday 13th of June. A notice will come home early next week as we will require some parent help to assist us with this event. The Kowhai generally run last but I will get a time to you closer to the event.
On Tuesday Caroline will be teaching in Renwick 3 as I am on a course for the day.
Have a happy and safe week!
