Week 3, Term 2

During writing time this week we practised writing our tricky words on our friends backs!

Constable John came back to talk to us about saying no using a confident voice. We acted out some scenes. Constable John tried to trick us to get into cars with people we didn't know! We now know to say no straight away and find an adult we can trust to help us.

We also had some fun printmaking with some old junk that Neroli found! Have a look in the hallway for our finished masterpieces.

On Friday Funday we made jelly. We all took turns to stir the mixture. Neroli put it in the fridge to set. After lunch we had a treat of jelly and ice cream!

Next Week....

Our sounds will be oa/ie.
Our tricky words will be of/all.
During maths we will continue to do simple addition. Now that Ruth's class has more students I will be no longer sending children through for maths.
Constable John will be coming back for our last session. This will be on 'Secrets and Tricks' on Tuesday.
On Wednesday we have a trip to the Suter for a Drama and Movement. If you are able to come and assist us I would very much appreciate it.
We are starting our annual cross country training next Monday. Please ensure your child has suitable shoes to wear for running.
We are collecting household boxes for our creation station at Discovery Time. Please save your tea, toothpaste & cereal (and such like) boxes and send them to school. They may come back home in a different shape or form!!

Thank you for your support, have a happy and safe week.

Week 2, Term 2

This week we have been doing lots of speedy writing on the whiteboards learning to write the little words we know quickly. This leaves us with more brain power for the tricky words we have to sound out.

Constable John came to visit us on Wednesday to talk about Keeping Ourselves Safe. Neroli showed us how to use a gruff voice to tell someone to stop doing something she didn't like!

On Thursday Jane came to take us for fundamental skills. We were working on our throwing and catching. It was tricky stuff but we just kept on trying.

Next week...

Our sounds will be ai/j.
Our tricky words will be came/they.
During maths we will be working on simple addition and subtraction to 10/20.

This term we have our annual cross country event. We will begin our training soon therefore please ensure your child has suitable footwear.
Wednesday 28th of May we have a trip to the Suter for a drama and movement workshop. I will require parent helpers to support us on this outing please.
Food for Thought permission slips are due back. Even if your child only wants to participate for some of the time is fine.

Have a happy and safe week.

We have had a busy week getting back into our routines and catching up with our friends.

For P.E. this term we are lucky enough to have an expert come to school to teach us some fundamental skills. This is each Thursday afternoon.
We also have our annual cross country. Our training will begin in Week 3.

This week we started our Keeping Ourselves Safe programme. The unit we are doing is called 'What to Do - Me Mohio Kia Pehea'. The aim of the programme is to develop and strengthen children's skills to keep themselves safe and to encourage them to get help from a caring adult. For some of the lessons our friendly community Constable John will be assisting me to deliver the content. On Tuesday we will be discussing body parts and Wednesday along with Constable John we will be covering touch. We have started off learning the importance of knowing our address and phone number. Each week I will inform you of the content so that you can best support your child at home.

Next week....
Our sounds will be ay/ng.
Our tricky words are away/too.
During maths we are working with numbers with 5 and numbers that make 10.
On Wednesday the 28th of May we ahve a trip to the Suter for a drama and movement workshop. More details will come closer to the time.
A reminder for those children wanting to do Food for Thought need to have signed permission slips back to school.

Have a happy and safe week!
